Description

This class is intended for adults who interact with youth ages 12 to 18 years of age: family members, co-workers, instructors, teachers, adult leaders. No mental health background is needed for this program and there is a certification awarded upon completion of the class.

Students will learn basic skills that will enable them to respond to mental health situations that might arise with older children and teens. The instructor will explain real life scenarios and provide techniques used to recognize potential crisis situations and technics used to diffuse these situations. Night Life provides a course textbook and corresponding class worksheets.

Instructor Lauren Colwell is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and has worked as a social worker for the state and school adjustment counselor for Worcester Public Schools for over 20 years. She now works as a district-wide Social Emotional Coach to support the Culture and Climate of Worcester Schools. She speaks Spanish and Portuguese, and enjoys learning about and appreciating all types of family systems and cultures. Lauren has been teaching YMHFA for over five years and brings real-life examples to make her trainings interesting and helpful.
