Description

During this 60 hour course, you will learn the basic skills and knowledge needed to become a successful entry-level automotive or diesel technician. Classroom instruction will be followed by hands-on practice working under the supervision of experienced instructors. Topics include safety, suspension, brakes, steering systems, exhaust and emissions, four-stroke engine theory, design characteristics, service techniques, diagnostics and repair strategies. You will disassemble, measure, inspect and reassemble diesel engines in accordance with factory blueprint specifications.

ASE certified instructors Shawn Baillargeon and Brian Courteau teach automotive and diesel technology at South High Community School. They are graduates of Worcester Technical High School and Universal Technical Institute and each instructor has 30 years of experience in the auto and diesel industry; Shawn owned and operated a repair shop and Brian worked on fleet maintenance in automotive and heavy-duty truck dealerships.

Employment for automotive technicians is expected to increase by 46% from 2016 – 2026 with a 2018 median annual wage of $40,710. Employment for diesel technicians is expected to increase by 9% from 2016 – 2026 with a 2018 median annual wage of $47,350 (Bureau of Labor Statistics Employment Projections).
