Instructor
James Staruk-Peloquin started gardening with his Dad as a child. He wants to bring the knowledge, gained from years of experience through research and trial-and-error, to others. He believes that all people – no matter their ability, age or property – should be able to garden, if they want.

September 26:
o Identifying best growing spaces, covering topics of light and soil
o Discussion of the pros and cons of container versus in ground gardening
o Overview of conventional and unconventional sources for plants, seeds, containers and bed construction materials
October 24:
o Discussion of the needs, pros and cons of different starting methods: seed starting, buying plugs, propagation, direct sowing seeds
o Discussion of different seed starting methods, including winter sowing and windowsill containers
o Discussion of different propagation methods, including water and container soil
o Explanation of USDA hardiness zones, perennial versus annual versus biennial plants, and last frost date
o Introduction to companion planting
November 21:
o Discussion of different methods for preparing a garden bed
o Discussion of different methods for filling containers
o Overview of weeding, treating and pest control
o Overview of basic watering and maintenance needs and timelines
December 19:
o Overview of methods to provide resiliency into garden spaces, through lens of weather and vacations
o Introduction to succession planting and Fall gardening
o Identifying common beginner vegetable plant ripening (tomato, pepper, potato, cucumber, summer squash)
