First Time Cables & Laces 

When:

Tuesdays, 6:30pm-8:30pm, March 29 to April 26 (one holiday)

Description:

Do Irish knit cables scare you? does lace intimidate you? Add some fun and texture to your scarves, hats and blankets! Our instructor will introduce you to the basic cables and lace. We will use a Cowl design for cables and different cowl design for lace.

Outline:

Students will be given preparation homework before the first day of class. 

Week 1: setting up for the cable pattern, reading charts vs. the written instructions, learning how to create a cables with a cable needle.

Week 2: troubleshooting, reading the work that has been done, “tinking” a cable, fixing cables without ripping out.

Students will be given preparation homework before the the third week.

Week 3: setting up for the lace pattern, reading charts vs. the written instructions, life lines.

Week 4: troubleshooting, reading the work that has been done, tinking SSK’s, yo’s, creating a yo that was forgotten, and more.

Audience: 

ages 14 to 100

Pre- Req’s: 

Student must have a basic and comfortable knowledge of the following: knit stitch, purl stitch, long-tail cast on, bind off, swatching for gauge, working in the round, finishing.

Materials:

I will provide gauge requirements and instructions for the part of the first cowl that is to be completed before coming to class. Students will be responsible for the supplies for 2 projects: 400 yds of worsted weight (medium weight, #4) yarn, solid light color, wool or wool blend or acrylic or other animal fiber (200 yds for cable cowl and 200 yds for lace cowl); two 24” long circular needles in size that meets gauge; hook shaped cable needle; locking stitch markers; non-locking stitch markers.
